NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

The past two years were especially big for takeaways, given numerous lockdowns, quarantines and isolation periods.

Ordering food was one small joy many of us still had.

This year Deliveroo have unveiled the top 100 trending dishes around the world, along with the top 50 in the UK.

From doner kebabs to devilled eggs, there’s a real mix of favourites depending on where you are in the world.

But first, let’s look at the UK.

For the second year in a row, Five Guys Cheeseburger has featured in the top 10 list, this time coming second.

The top spot went to London’s Honi Poke, while people in Aberdeen have been big fans of FreshMex, coming third.

Hardly a meal, ordering avocados from Waitrose actually bagged 10th place, showing just how strong the avo love still is across the nation.

Clear trends emerged this year when looking at the top dishes.

Deliveroo noticed this with lunch orders. ‘With more people than ever still working from home across the globe, classic lunch choices like wraps, sandwiches and salad bowls have never featured so heavily in Deliveroo’s top 100,’ the brand said.

Lunch options make up 20% of the global list for this year.

Comfort foods also still hold their appeal, as they make up a third of the top 100 globally.

Burgers remained the top choice for food delivery around the world with 18 appearing in the top 100.

However, poke bowls – a healthier choice – also featured as a favoured dish.

Hawaiian poke are a favourite in six different countries and make up 40% of the global top 10 list.

Over in Europe, our neighbours have been going for local delivery places over mass chains, which is particularly noticeable in Paris (where devilled eggs are popular), Milan and Belgium.

Now, don’t say you have no idea what to order for lunch…
